Amazon Error: “You may not create ASINs for this brand.”
- This Amazon error appears when the brand name you enter is protected under Amazon’s Brand Registry.
- Amazon cross-references the Brand field against GTIN ranges the brand owner registered with Amazon.
- If your GTIN does not match that brand’s registered GTINs, Amazon blocks ASIN creation.
- This is an Amazon platform rule and does not reflect the validity of your legally owned GS1-compliant barcodes.
Amazon Error Message:
- "You may not create ASINs for this brand. Please review our ASIN Creation Policy here: Amazon ASIN Creation Policy."

Explanation
This means you are attempting to use a barcode number on a brand-name item. Amazon uses Brand Registry to verify brand ownership. Brands register their own barcode identifiers with Amazon, and only those identifiers may be used when listing products under that brand.
Example: You’re listing a Nike shoe but trying to use your own barcode. This will not work because your barcode does not match Nike’s Amazon brand-registered GTIN ranges.
Solution
The only functional workaround is:
- Do not use the major brand’s name (e.g., Nike) in the Brand field.
- Instead, enter your DBA / Amazon seller name in the Brand field.
- List the major brand name (e.g., Nike) inside the product description instead.
The moment you type “Nike” into the Brand field, Amazon automatically cross-references your GTIN against Nike’s brand-owned barcode ranges and blocks the listing.
Note: Amazon does not publish a list of brands for which this rule applies.
