Amazon Error: “The SKU data provided conflicts with the Amazon catalog.”

  • This Amazon error appears when the UPC/EAN/GTIN you enter is already tied to an existing ASIN in Amazon’s internal catalog.
  • The conflict may be due to your own previous listing, or illegal usage by another seller.
  • Bar Codes Talk GTINs are GS1-compliant and never reused or reassigned—conflicts originate only inside Amazon’s private POS system.
  • Amazon does not purge “tomb-stoned” listings, which causes persistent GTIN conflicts even after a violating seller is removed.

Explanation

This means Amazon detects that the UPC/EAN/GTIN you entered is already associated with another product or ASIN in Amazon’s system—even if that use was illegal.

This happens one of two ways:

  1. You already listed a product using that UPC/EAN/GTIN.
  2. Another seller has illegally listed products using your unique UPC/EAN/GTIN.

Amazon acknowledges that GTIN conflicts occur due to how their internal POS system works. Depending on the case, Amazon-approved workarounds may apply.

Important Notes

The UPC/EAN/GTIN you purchased from Bar Codes Talk has never been reassigned or resold to anyone else. We do not recycle GTINs.

Amazon does not delete or purge ASINs created using illegally used GTINs. These remain in Amazon’s database as “tomb-stoned listings,” which continue to conflict with new listings.

Illegal usage on Amazon does not affect your barcode’s validity anywhere else globally. GTINs from Bar Codes Talk remain GS1-compliant and usable with all other retailers and marketplaces.

Solution(s):

For “You already listed a product with that UPC/EAN/GTIN”

  • Use the next barcode number we provided. Do not reuse barcode numbers for different ASINs moving forward.

For “Another seller has illegally listed products using your unique UPC/EAN/GTIN.”

Because Amazon does not provide visibility into conflicting ASINs, Bar Codes Talk must manually investigate your GTINs. This process typically takes 1–3 business days.

To expedite troubleshooting, email the following information to contactus@barcodestalk.com:

  • Your Confirmed Order Number from Bar Codes Talk
  • Your Manufacturer Name(s) used on Amazon
  • A screenshot of the Amazon error
  • A list of which barcode(s) from your order were able to be used successfully
    (Missing information may delay resolution.)

After our review, we will offer one of the following:

  1. Help resolving the conflict so the original GTIN can be used on Amazon.
  2. Replacement GTINs (free of charge) that will work on Amazon’s platform.
  3. A prorated refund for GTINs Amazon will not accept
(Your original GTINs remain legally yours and valid everywhere else.)

Note: We are continuously communicating with Amazon to improve GTIN handling and reduce these catalog conflicts.

Thank you for your patience while we work to resolve this Amazon-specific issue.

Important:

The seller who used your barcode illegally committed the violation—not Amazon. Amazon may suspend the offending seller, but they do not purge their listings, which is why the conflict persists unless manually addressed.
